Mr David Howe trained at Birmingham University Medical School qualifying in 1999. He subsequently underwent surgical training on the West Midlands Higher surgical training in Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery.

Mr David Howe trained at Birmingham University Medical School qualifying in 1999. He subsequently underwent surgical training on the West Midlands Higher surgical training in Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery.

He successfully passed the FRCS ORL-HNS in 2008 and was awarded the certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in 2010 and was entered on the GMC specialist register as an ENT Surgeon.

In 2010 he travelled to Australia to undertake the prestigious Royal Adelaide Head and Neck fellowship where he was trained by world leading surgeons in advanced head and neck surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery.

Following completion of his fellowship David travelled back to the United Kingdom to be appointed as a Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals.

During his time there he helped develop a trans-nasal oesphagoscopy service with his colleague Mr John Campbell, this allowed rapid, comprehensive outpatient evaluation of the entire upper areodigestive tract in a clinic setting under local anaesthesia.

David instigated a minimal access parathyroidectomy service for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism which allowed for small incision as a daycare procedure.

2014

In 2014 David collaborated with his colleague Mr Gary Walton at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire to set up the first Trans-oral robotic head and neck service in the Midlands allowing the removal of throat cancers trans orally without a skin incision using the DaVinci Robotic system.

2018

In 2018 David moved his NHS base to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire and became Lead for the Head and Neck service working with colleagues to develop the service into a regional tertiary cancer centre for complex head and neck, thyroid and parathyroid diseases.

2019

In 2019 David was elected onto the council of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Laryngology and Rhinology section and serve on the council for a tenure of 6 years.

David was chair of the Head and Neck multidisciplinary Team meeting for 5 years and Clinical Lead for the Head and Neck Cancer service working with colleagues to develop the service in Warwickshire into a regional centre for patients requiring treatment for Head and Neck diseases.

2020

From 2020 David worked as Deputy Chair of the West Midlands Cancer Alliance Expert Advisory Group for Head and Neck Cancer until 2024.

David subsequently was appointed by West Midlands cancer alliance as a Pathway Lead with a current role to try and improve Head and Neck/Thyroid pathways to improve cancer performance in the West Midlands.

David has been invited faculty on teaching course to train the next generation of surgeons as well as invited Speaker at esteemed conferences.

David lives in the Warwickshire countryside with his two children and wife. He enjoys triathlons and the odd round of golf.
